Things to do
Jokin Cliffs
The Cliffs of Jokin were formerly the island's barrier reef. The spectacular 120-foot-tall cliffs are made up of layers of ancient, fossilised corals and marine life, providing a fascinating peek into pre-history. There is also an optional 200-step pathway for a closer, beachfront view.
Luengoni Beach
Luengoni Beach, located on Lifou's southern shore, is a gorgeous, quiet, long sandy beach famed for its fluffy white sand and blue lagoon. It provides a calm escape known for swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing. Take a journey to the "Jewels of Luengoni" to see breathtaking underwater caverns and lagoons.
Wharfside market
Lifou's open-air Wharfside markets, located near the tender pier in Easo, offer a dynamic, local shopping experience developed exclusively for cruise ship tourists. These marketplaces provide a close-up view at Loyalty Islands' Melanesian culture and food. The stalls sell locally made things such as hand-painted sarongs (pareos), woven pandanus leaf bags and hats, shell jewellery, and wood carvings.
Notre Dame de Lourdes
Notre Dame de Lourdes is set on a hill overlooking the Bay of Santal (Sandalwood Bay). The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes affords a spectacular view of the bay. The chapel is easily accessible by a small, landscaped pedestrian path. The view from the Easo chapel is one-of-a-kind, and in the winter, remember to bring binoculars to witness the humpback whales that come to breed just a few stone throws away.
